Rania Ajami is an award-winning writer and director based in New York and London. Her most recent feature narrative, a dark comedy about six people trying to break into a mental institution to escape the pressures of daily life, Asylum Seekers, is currently garnering awards and press at the festival circuit, and being distributed internationally. Her earlier feature documentary about Qaddafi's female bodyguards, Shadows of A Leader, is the first and only critical work on the elite bodyguards of Libya's notorious leader and the first feature to shoot in the country since the 1960s. Shadows of a Leader has been sold internationally to over twenty countries (including Israel, Canada, Germany, and Japan), has been selected and won awards at many prestigious film festivals, and is now currently being taught and invited to show at prestigious universities in the United States and Great Britain.
